Community-Based Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

Monica M. Tippens is a graduate of Black Mothers Breastfeeding Association Peer Counselor training program and is currently a Community Breastfeeding Peer Counselor based in Detroit, MI at BMBFA. She began supporting women in her community at a young age, she has always had a passion for encouraging women to feel beautiful and empowered while boosting their confidence. Her tenacity for her passion leads her to personal styling, Monica takes theunique needs into account to help her clients achieve their image goals. Her ability to build constructive working relationships with a wide range of people formed collaborations with well known retailers, photographers, models, makeup artists, wholesalers and other wardrobe stylists in the industry. Her work has been featured on Style File, Fox 2 News Detroit, in magazines and countless photo shoots.

Monica gave birth to her first child in 2016, she then became a stay at home mommy as she homeschooled her daughter for 4 years, during that time she created a non profit called Kenzi’s Kollections named after her daughter, she has donated thousands of new and gently used baby clothes, toys and equipment to families. She also enthusiastically worked to help facilitate a tutoring center in creating a positive learning environment for students in elementary through 12th grade that allowed them to excel socially, emotionally, and academically within all aspects of their education. Her skills as a Medical office Administrator, Physical Therapist Technician assistant, Behavioral Health facilitator at Starfish Family Services, as well as volunteer work as a Secretary overseeing Parent Committees, and Big Brother Big Sister mentor helps her bring an immense amount of compassion to this role as a Peer Counselor.

Monica graduated from college June 11, 2021 just one day after giving birth to her second beautiful baby girl.

She is a breastfeeding advocate that has successfully breastfed her own babies and can relate to the challenges women and families face while transitioning into parenthood. With a heart and dedication to serving her community and a deep commitment to maternal and child health, Monica has dedicated her career to empowering mothers and supporting them throughout their breastfeeding journeys with a goal to help mothers enjoy a positive breastfeeding experience. Her journey has been one of continuous learning and dedication as she aspires to become a Lactation Consultant, she is proud to make a positive impact on the lives of mothers and their families, and look forward to continuing this important work in the years to come.
