The 2025 Motown Experience: Birth & Breastfeeding Conference Overview

An Immersive Journey Centering the Vitality of Black Families in Detroit

Held on September 24–26, 2025 | Detroit, MI

The 2025 Motown Experience: Birth & Breastfeeding Conference brought together birth workers, advocates, policymakers, and community leaders from across the nation to honor Detroit’s cultural legacy and its powerful influence on birth and breastfeeding justice. Held September 24–26, 2025, the conference featured inspiring sessions and community-driven discussions that centered healing, empowerment, and collective care. Dr. Kimberlydawn Wisdom delivered a powerful keynote address, reminding attendees of the strength that arises when culture and compassion guide our work.

The experience also included a guided Motown Bus Tour with stops at BMBFA Headquarters, WINN Network, Hitha Healing House, and Uplift Family Services, where participants explored the heart of Detroit’s birth and breastfeeding movement in action. Together, we celebrated community-based care, shared innovative solutions, and reconnected with the rhythm of Detroit, a reminder that when we move together, we create lasting change for Black families and communities everywhere.
