Black Mothers' Breastfeeding Association

Kiddada Green is the Founding Executive Director of Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Association (BMBFA). She began BMBFA in 2007 as a breastfeeding mom who recognized the need for mothers to be supported in her own community. Kiddada oversees the vision, administration, operations and program development of the organization. Her impact as a thought leader, freedom fighter, and innovator for racial justice and maternal child health has echoed throughout the nation as a call to save Black mothers. Her background as an instructional specialist and literacy coach in the Detroit Public Schools has carried over into her advocacy work as she leads the charge to educate and empower Black families and optimize the first food experience.

As a community organizer, Kiddada serves on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Maternal Infant Health Policy & Legislation in Action Committee. As co-chair of the committee, she has put forth recommendations for the State of Michigan Breastfeeding Plan and the Maternal Infant Health & Equity Improvement Plan. She is also on the Detroit Health Equity Network, Collective Impact Advisory Committee. Kiddada is the 2017 recipient of the Spirit of Detroit Award, as well as the State of Michigan Special Tribute. In 2021 she received the Black History Month Innovation Award from The Michigan Legislative Black Caucus.

Nationally, Kiddada has contributed her expertise on The U.S. Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding. She spearheaded the formation of the Black Breastfeeding Caucus, as co-founder and chair, and she is the co-creator of both Black Breastfeeding Week, and the Black Infant Remembrance Memorial. In 2020, she formalized her consulting enterprise, launching Ask Kiddada, a leadership consulting firm. In her role as a consultant she has supported programs and projects with organizations such as Mocha Manual, American Public Health Association, Global Evaluation and Applied Research Solutions, and New Venture Fund for National Collaborative Health Equity with Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kiddada serves as a part of the United States Breastfeeding Committee, COVID-19 Infant Young Child Feeding Constellation. Furthermore, her work has been published internationally in Breastfeeding Medicine and she has been featured in several noteworthy publications, including Ebony Magazine, Womens eNews and The Root.

Kiddada is passionate about education and learning. She is a proud alumna of the esteemed W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Leadership Network Fellowship, as well as the Enterprising Health Fellowship, a subsidiary of Ascension Health. She is a Spartan and a Grizzly, holding a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Oakland University.
